There are a lot of alternative search engines out there besides Google. Some of them focus on just images, videos etc.
Here are a few of my favorite alternatives that I have found:
1)http://uk.forestle.org/: I liked this search because it is also for a good cause! It is set up just like Google however each search saves a rain forest!
2)http://www.mugurdy.com: My favorite thing about this site was that it doesn't just give you the website to click on but it shows you the page! I feel like this is very helpful and can save a lot of time going to useless sites.
3)http://www.spezify.com: This search engine is kind of fun. It is set up like mugurdy as far as showing you the page, but I like that it looks more like a bulletin board! Includes music, tweets, articles, etc. Has a lot of alternatives to just web pages.

ReplyDeleteWe wish to improve the user experience of the visual search engine Mugurdy (http:://www.mugurdy.com). In particular the way in which, after the search results are displayed, the mouse rolling over an image produces a pop-up which is large enough to read. Clicking on the pop-up brings the user to the relevant website in a new window.
Is there a better way to do this? Is the pop-up needed at all or does it 'get in the way'? These are the questions we'd like your feedback on (and indeed any other observations you may have on Mugurdy). Thank you.

Personally I like the enlarged pop up window, I think it is helpful to scan the site before you open it. I also really appreciate the window opening in a new tab that way I don't lose my search results.
ReplyDeleteThe 2 suggestions I have are:
1) Maybe have the original image smaller so you can fit more on a page.
2) The pop up lingers on the page for awhile which is a little bothersome. The page itself loads fairly slow and has a lagging transition time.
